Since it's inception in 2005, the Academy and the band program have experienced tremendous growth and success. The goal of the Academy is to become one of the top ten charter schools in the nation and the band program shares in this magnificent vision! For the school year 2008 our first eighth grade graduating class scored the highest of all eighth grade classes in the state of Georgia on the CRCT in reading and ninth overall in mathematics! Likewise, our concert band received an excellent rating in their very first festival competition! Look out! Here come the mighty eagles!!!!!

History of the D.A.T.E. Band

The D.A.T.E. Band was begun in the 2005 - 2006 school year with the establisment of the Lithonia Academy of Technology and the Environment Charter School. The very first band had about 22 members on the beginning level only. The following school year the Academy, under the leadership of its new Headmaster Dr. Maury Wills, relocated and changed the name to the DeKalb Academy of Technology and the Environment Charter School. During the next three school years the school, as well as the band program, continued to grow and prosper. We quickly outgrew our second location and relocated again to our current location for the 2009 - 2010 school year. Currently, the band consists of about 135 members in grades 5 - 8 and continues to grow in quantity and quality! Look out world! The "Big Green Sound Machine" is on the move!
